Spruce Up Your Spring

Spring flowers

Hello everyone!

Spring has finally arrived after a seemingly endless winter. You know what that means: time to shed the bulky wool sweaters, put away your boots and focus on your upcoming spring/summer wardrobe.

As always, spending time now will save you time later. That way when Spring really gets going, your closet will contain only clothes that you like, fit and need. Because who has time to sort through winter coats when you could be enjoying a beautiful day?

If you follow these simple steps, you should be finished in a couple of weeks. I recommend completing them in short bursts to maintain the correct mindset and energy level. The last thing you want is to get frustrated and give up with piles of clothing scattered around.

Step 1—Designate a chuck of time each week (or day if you can) and commit to going through clothes by category. That way you can knock everything out at once, instead of going back and forth. If time permits, edit a couple categories at a time. Remember to reflect. Just how many black flats do you really need?

Step 2—Gather all your clothing items in a specific category (examples listed below). Get yourself a cup of tea (or something stronger, depending on the work ahead of you) and some garbage bags. As you review each item, ask yourself these three questions.

  1. Do I love it?

  2. Does it fit?

  3. Do I have a need for it?

If the answer is no to any of these questions, put it in the donate pile.

The answer is yes, place back in your closet by category.

Repeat Step 1 and Step 2 until you've gone through everything.

Potential categories:

  • Dresses

  • Jackets

  • Pants

  • Scarves

  • Shoes

  • Shorts

  • Skirts

  • Sweaters

  • Swimsuits

  • T-shirts

  • Workout Clothes

Step 3—Schedule a pick up or drop off your donations. Check out my March 23 blog post that lists organizations that accept clothing donations.

Step 4—Pat yourself on back for a job well done!
