You’ve de-cluttered. What to do with your discarded stuff?

Things to discard

Hello everyone!

So you've done it. You've de-cluttered your home. Except now your home is covered in garbage bags full of said clutter, but you hate the idea of it all going into a landfill.

What's the solution?

Fortunately, there are a ton of great options for discarding your items. You may not be able to donate your child's macaroni artwork, but most items that are no longer right for you can definitely be reused by someone else.

Here are a few organizations that accept donations on a regular basis, but also look in your community for churches or schools that host an annual rummage sale. They would happily accept your goods.

Donate:

Recycle:

  • Staples- will recycle small electronics so be green and bring in your unused  phones, laptops, tablets, cameras, DVD players and more. Details are available on their website

For my Chicago-area friends:

  • Random Acts of Flowers- accepts vases that are used to bring flowers to people in the hospital who may not otherwise receive any

  • Bernie's Book Bank- accepts gently used children's books (infant to sixth grade) and distributes these books to at risk children who may not have books in their home

Have a plan on where you want to donate/recycle your discarded items before you start editing your home. That way after finish cleaning, you know exactly where to take it instead of having it lay around in your house! Plus, you have a spot where your treasured items can bring joy to someone else and not end up in a landfill.

Getting rid of clutter is not always easy, but it helps knowing your items can experience a life somewhere else.

Hope this helps, happy Saturday and happy organizing!

Best,

Laura
