Get your freezer ready with your favorite summer treats

Treat you and your freezer!

Treat you and your freezer!

Hello All!

With Memorial Day, the unofficial start of summer, stock your freezer with your favorite frozen treats and grilling foods!

Take a few minutes this weekend to organize your freezer and you will be set for the summer!

  • Pull out everything in your freezer and place on your countertop. You need to work quickly so nothing thaws.

  • Sort through your food and group like items together. Fruit with fruit, veggies together and so on with meat, fish, frozen treats, etc.

  • Categorize your food. Throw out items with freezer burn, food you know you won’t eat or cannot recognize.

  • Remove food from cardboard boxes. Boxes take up room and you are not able to see how many ice cream bars you have left. Remember to cut off cooking instructions from the box and save with your recipes.

  • Put food back in your freezer in groups. Remember fruit with fruit, veggies together and so on with meat, fish, frozen treats, etc

  • Use plastic containers to keep the groups together. No more digging through the freezer for a frozen pizza you think you have. Use bins you already own. If you need to purchase, make sure to carefully measure the freezer space and take the dimensions with you to the store.

  • Label individual containers. Include contents and a date. Takes the detective work out of determining what is in the plastic container and how long it has been there. Yikes!

All the above photos illustrate how to organize with a pull-out freezer drawer. You can apply the same principles to a freezer section with shelves.

Remember—

  1.  Check your freezer stock before you purchase more food. Eat what you own.

  2. Plan your meals using food from your freezer and your freezer will stay fresh and organized.

Wishing you a relaxing, organized weekend!

Cheers, Laura
