Don’t forget the frig!

Hello Everyone!

Your refrigerator is used multiple times a day by everyone in your house. So keeping it clean and stocked can be challenging to say the least! Follow a few simple principles when organizing your refrigerator and say hello to a clean, tidy frig that is easy to maintain.

CATEGORIZE—Organize your frig by food group (put veggies, fruits, cheese, and dairy together) and by food category (put drinks, salad dressings, and condiments together). Keeping like items together helps everyone easily find what they want and you know when you are out. No more rummaging in the back to see what you have or what has spolied.

CONTAINERS—Use glass containers when possible:

  • Glass can go from the frig to the microwave (or oven). I use Anchor Hocking containers that are microwavable and oven safe. Use square or rectangular shapes to maximize your storage space. A bit like putting a puzzle together. Straight sides fit together better than round containers.

  • Glass is sanitary (goes in the dishwasher) and always looks clean. No more cloudy plastic containers.

  • Glass can be used as a serving bowl. Put your berry bowl on the counter for a breakfast buffet and eliminate the need to dirty another dish.

Use plastic bins to store larger quantities of veggies or fruits. Storing food in containers keeps your frig tidy and makes clean up simple. Much easier to wipe down a bin than clean several shelves due to food spillage.

Organize your refrigerator

LABEL—Label bins to help your family find their food.

Added bonus-makes putting away groceries a breeze. Everything has a spot!

PACKAGING—Remove packaging to eliminate visual clutter and allow more space for the food.

LAZY SUSAN—Put your condiments on a lazy susan to maximize space. Just spin to find the soy sauce on sushi night.

Introducing a few of these tips when organizing your refrigerator will save you time during meal prep and restocking and keep your frig tidy and clean.

Happy Saturday, Happy Organizing!

Best,

Laura
